Three thousand years of Aztec cosmology fit in this pendant. The Aztec Calendar — the symbol of Tonatiuh, sun god — is one of the most recognizable motifs in Mesoamerican history. In this sterling .925 pendant, the bright wheel's center is set with fire opal red, a mineral that glows like sacred flames. The work is hand-set, stone by stone, in a Taxco workshop. Every line of the prehispanic design is crafted with precision: the sun god's features, the day-sign glyphs, the deep red of fire opal contrasting against polished silver.

The stone you see is genuine fire opal — a volcanic mineral that burns in red-orange when light strikes it. It is not cubic zirconia or glass: it is the volcanic stone that comes from Mexico's mines, the same stone the Aztecs knew as "the living stone of fire." The silver is authentic .925 sterling, sealed with the Hallmark (Mexican guarantee mark). The setting is by hand: no machine press fixed it here, only the hands of the Taxco silversmith who placed each facet of the stone in its seat.

Taxco has been the world capital of artisanal silversmithing since 1534 — nearly 500 years of passing down this craft across generations. Every piece from its workshops carries the inheritance of centuries. This pendant, with its ancestral motif and fire opal, is a conversation between prehispanic cosmology and the modern mastery of the Taxco silversmith. It is not a reproduction: it is an act of reverence toward history. Learn the story of Arte Taxco.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does it include a chain?
A: No — this is the pendant only. Chain is sold separately so you can choose the length and material you prefer.

Q: Is the opal genuine?
A: Yes. It is genuine fire opal, a natural volcanic mineral from Mexico, red and warm. It is not cubic zirconia or glass — real stone, with the glow only fire opal has.

Q: What does hand-setting mean?
A: It means each stone is placed by hand into its silver bezel — no machines, no presses. That is why it takes more hours and each piece is slightly unique.
