Your silver ring is always valuable: why we buy back what we sell you

When you buy a ring from most jewelers, it's a one-way transaction: you pay, you take the piece, and if you ever no longer want it, you're stuck with it. You might keep it in a drawer, give it away, or sell it for next to nothing at a second-hand market.

At Arte Taxco, it works differently. And that difference has a name: the Lifetime Jewelry Program.

The idea behind the program

We have been working directly with Taxco workshops for over 40 years. In that time, we've seen the same thing over and over again: people who love their silver rings, wear them for years, and at some point—because their tastes change, because they want something new, because life changes—decide that the piece has run its course.

What happens next is a waste. Fine silver doesn't deteriorate. A well-cared-for .925 ring can last for generations. But on the second-hand market, it's worth a fraction of its original price, and many pieces end up abandoned in drawers.

We wanted to change that. If we produce the piece, sell it, and know its history, why can't we also take it back and give it a second life?

How it works in practice

The program is simple. Any ring that Arte Taxco sells you, we will buy back when you decide. No expiration date. No complicated questions.

The refund is given in store credit that you can use for your next purchase in our store. The percentage depends on how long you've had the piece and whether it has a stone or not:

Time owned Without stone With stone
0 to 1 year 70% 35%
1 to 3 years 60% 27%
3 to 6 years 50% 20%
6 years or more 40% 15%

Why does it vary by time? Because silver doesn't lose value, but the reconditioning work does have a cost. The longer the time, the more likely the piece will need polishing or adjustment before it can be sold again. The percentage reflects that cost, not the value of the silver itself.

And why less if it has a stone? Because stones—especially natural ones like opals or turquoise—are harder to evaluate, and if they show wear, the restoration process is more complex.

What happens to the piece afterwards?

Pieces we receive in good condition are reconditioned: we polish them, check the setting if there's a stone, and incorporate them into our Second Life line—pieces with a history, at an affordable price, for those who want artisanal Taxco jewelry without paying full price.

Pieces that arrive damaged are evaluated, and we send you a repair quote before processing any refund. You decide whether to accept or prefer to keep the piece.

What this means for you as a buyer

When you buy a ring from Arte Taxco, you are actually making a low-risk decision. If you love the piece and wear it for years—perfect. If at some point you decide it's no longer for you—that's also taken care of.

That changes the buying equation. You're not betting all your money that you'll love that ring forever. You have a dignified way out.

We often compare it to the logic of consumer goods versus valuable assets. When you buy clothes, you know that in two years they might be out of style and worth zero. When you buy fine artisanal silver with a buy-back program, you are buying something that retains part of its value over time. It's not a financial investment—it's simply a smart purchase.

One important rule

The store credit covers up to 50% of your next purchase. This is not an arbitrary limit—it's what guarantees that each return involves a new jewelry experience. We don't want anyone to use the program as a way to "cash out" on silver: we want it to be a cycle of people who love jewelry and evolve with it.

The store credit is valid for 24 months from the return, so you have time to think about what you want next.

How to initiate a return

When you decide it's time, email us at hola@artetaxco.mx with your order number and some photos of the ring. We will respond with the valuation and next steps. The cost of return shipping is at your expense—that's the only condition.

Do you have questions about the program? Read all the details here, or write to us directly. And if you don't have your first Arte Taxco ring yet, this is a good time to explore the collection.
